Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a fishing charter?

The boat leaves at between 5am and 7am (depending on the time of year) and normally returns at around 1 - 3pm (depending on weather conditions and how successful the fishing has been).

What happens if there is bad weather?

A charter can be postponed at the discretion of the skipper due to weather and/or sea conditions. In this case, another charter will be arranged at your convenience.

What happens if I get sea sick?

The skipper has anti nausea tablets on board but it is advisable to take sea sickness tablets at least 2 hours before embarking and refrain from "over indulging" the night before.

If you start to feel sea sick, it is good practice to go out on deck (near the front so you are away from the engine fumes and bait etc.). Relax and keep your eyes on the horizon (which helps your brain establish a fixed bearing). If you adopt a positive attitude and keep busy, the nausea should soon disappear.

What happens if I want to abort the trip?

Unfortunately we cannot refund monies paid for a charter if the client decides to return to shore early.

What happens to the fish we catch?

You are welcome to keep the edible game fish you catch (adhering to bag limits) but we do support “catch & release” and encourage anglers to use their discretion in this regard. A good rule is: One for the table and the rest for your grandchildren (to catch when they are older!).

Please note: We do not boat marlin (see below).

What marlin fishing equipment do you have?

All the marlin tackle on the boat has recently been upgraded: We use Shimano Tiagra 50 reels loaded with 900yd 50lb braid topped with 300yd 50lb mono. The rods are Shimano Tiagra 80lb and we are one of the few boats in South Africa pulling Pakula lures which are renowned and revered in Australia and Hawaii.

The boat has a live bait well, outriggers, stand up harnesses and a fighting chair so it is well suited to provide the best environment in which to hunt for the big fish.

Do you boat the marlin you catch?

No. We are strictly a "Catch & Release" boat, i.e. all marlin are returned to the sea unless they are mortally wounded or are a record breaker.

You will have enough time to photograph the fish alongside the boat while we revive it and we will also take measurements of its length from which its weight can be determined. A taxidermist can also use this information to make a mounted replica which you can hang proudly on your wall.

We believe that the thrill of watching a released marlin swim slowly into the deep ocean far outweighs the unnecessary slaughter of these beautiful creatures and we are sure you will agree with us.

Do you provide catering?

Catering is not provided by the boat. You can bring your own snacks and drinks. The boat has a (small) fridge and a deep freeze but it is recommended you bring you own cooler boxes with ice.

What must I bring?A cap, polarised sunglasses, sunscreen and a warm jacket are recommended.

Should I tip the crew?

A tip of between 5-10% is customary for the crew (depending on the service).
